About Us

Headquartered in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, with operations in Montréal, Québec, Parak Harvest is the story of two lifelong friends and their families uniting to deliver premium, specialty coffee from our family farm directly to communities across Canada.

Parak Harvest is a roaster-producer venture founded by Luis Miranda and Charles Chung, born from their shared passion for exceptional coffee. The two longtime friends, originally from different corners of the world, first met at the University of Waterloo while pursuing their graduate degrees. Trained as Engineers, their careers have led them to various cities, yet they always find their way back to the city that brought them together—Waterloo. It is only fitting that this is the place where they cultivate and share their passion for coffee.

Our Farm

Our farm is located in Tacámbaro, Michoacán, Mexico, a region renowned for its rich volcanic soils and high-altitude coffee plantations. Grown at an elevation of 2,000 metres, our coffee thrives in this environment, which plays a vital role in developing its unique complexity. The cool mountain climate extends the maturation of the coffee cherries, allowing for greater sugar development and resulting in a natural sweetness and a rich, complex body in every cup of Parak coffee.

Quality, Sustainability, and Tradition in Every Cup

Along with our commitment to quality and sustainability, our coffee integrates the history of our origins, traditions, and a pinch of the mountains of the region of Tacámbaro, Michoacán. This spirit within each cup of Parak invites immersion in the unique narrative of passion and dedication behind each of our manually harvested and processed beans.

What's with our names?

Our names, much like our identities, are deeply rooted in the rich heritage of the Purépecha language, spoken by the indigenous people of northwestern Michoacán, Mexico. The Parak logo draws inspiration from the mythical "Coyote Man on a Throne," a monumental figure recently uncovered and believed to date back to around AD 1400. "Parak" is derived from the Purépecha word for butterfly, while "Monarka" honors the Monarch butterfly, renowned for its annual migration between Michoacán and Canada.
